Udupi: Leopard falls into open well, dies

Udupi, Sept 9, 2018: A four-year-old leopard fell into a well and drowned at Shiriyar village in Udupi district on Sept 8, Saturday.

Range Forest Officer, Shankarnarayana, said the leopard was chasing a dog when it fell into the well at Haryady area at around 4 a.m.

The Forest Department was informed and its workers reached the spot around 8 a.m. But the leopard was not to be seen in the well.

The Department then pressed into service divers who recovered the carcass from the 20-ft.-deep well.

The carcass was taken to the Forest depot at Hardalli-Mandalli village, where a veterinarian performed a post-mortem. It was later cremated.
