Udupi : Housewife ends life in suspected case of dowry harassment

Udupi, Feb 20, 2014: A  housewife  has reportedly committed suicide by hanging herself at her husband’s house at Karamballi in Shivalli on February 18, Tuesday night. Dowry harassment is suspected to be the reason for her suicide.

The deceased  has been identified as Tahira(30), wife of Mohammad Haneef, a resident of Janatha Colony at Karamballi. Tahira who hailed from Madikeri was given in marriage to Mohammad Hanief  13 years ago and they  have a son and daughter.

According to sources,  Tahira  who was reported missing a month ago, had returned home just a couple of days after her husband filed a case of missing on January 16.

 In another development, Tahira’s mother and brother have on February19, Wednesday lodged a complaint with the Manipal police alleging that  Tahira was tortured for dowry by Hanif and that he even used to prevent her from visiting her parental house.

 Investigations are underway.
