Udupi : Health Minister pays surprise visit to Govt Hospital; pulls up medical officers

Udupi, Jan 16, 2016 : State Health and Family Welfare Minister UT Khader was irked over the  absence of the District Surgeon or any other doctor at the District Government Hospital at Ajjarkad when he paid a surprise visit to the hospital on January 15, Wednesday.  During his visit the minister who took serious cognizance of various irregularities, pulled up the officials  for the same.

The minister was accompanied by local MLA Pramod Madhwaraj and CMC President P Yuvaraj among others.

When the District Surgeon Dr Mahendra arrived a little later, he was taken to task by the minister who even interacted   with patients and their family members who were at the hospital.

Members of the public had many grievances to pour out before the minister. Many even  said that patients who come to the hospital were sent to private hospitals or Wenlock Hospital in Mangaluru.

Later, the minister convened a meeting with the District Surgeon and other medical officers and instructed that they hold a meeting at least once a month  in the presence of the local legislator and other authorities concerned to discuss problems if any.

Pramod Madhwaraj, Udupi MLA who also spoke at the meeting warned of action against the District Surgeon if more complaints are heard.
