Udupi : Govt committed to welfare of farmers; Sorake at Rajyotsava celebrations

Udupi, Nov 01, 2015:  Udupi  District in-charge Minister Vinay Kumar Sorake has said that the  state   government was determined to promote the agricultural sector and thereby help farmers in increasing their income.

He was speaking after hoisting the flag and receiving the Guard of Honour on the occasion of the Kannada Rajyotsava celebrations  at the MGM College grounds on November 1, Sunday.

The Minister informed that  a total of 1,558 agricultural machinery have been provided to farmers in the district at a cost of Rs 7.25 crore under the Agriculture Machinery programme.

Sorake stated that  under the Gram Vikas Yojana, five villages in each of the five assembly constituencies in Udupi district have been chosen. The villages will be developed at a cost of Rs 75 lakh each, he said.

The government would also build 1,754 houses for the poor in 2015-16, he said adding 1222 beneficiaries have been selected under this scheme so far.

 He said a total of 29 autorickshaws and 5 tourist cars have been provided to beneficiaries of the Koraga community to help them achieve self-reliance in life.

 There are a total of 56,912 beneficiaries under Sandhya Suraksha, 32,953 beneficiaries under Widow Pension Scheme and 13,688 beneficiaries under  scheme for physically handicapped apart from various other schemes, he added.

Works on 102 km stretch of road in 38 villages at a cost  of Rs 93 crore is underway in the district under Namma Grama Namma Raste Scheme, he said.

As many as 21 achievers who have made significant contributions in various fields were conferred District level Rajyotsava Awards on the occasion.

R Vishal, Deputy Commissioner, Annamalai, SP, Pramod Madhwaraj,  MLA, Savitha Shivanand Kotian, ZP President, Yuvaraj, CMC President and others were present.

An attractive procession   was also  taken out from the service bus stand to MGM grounds  prior to the ceremony. A tableau ’Invest Karnataka-2016’ attracted the attention of many.
