Udupi : Gang of seven robbers arrested

Udupi, July 07, 2018: The Police here have arrested a gang of seven persons which was involved in several cases of assaulting and robbing passersby during  night time.

The arrested include Shreyas alias Sachu of Kalianpur who is one of the prime accused in the Mangaluru homestay attack case.

 The others arrested are Abhijith, Vighnesh, Sampath, Manish Kumar, Nikhil Shetty and Shashank. Two others namely Abhishek and Harshith are absconding. All the accused are between 19 and 21 years of age. Of them Nikhil Shetty is a  student.

The gang which was operative in Udupi, Manipal and Mangaluru areas used to target  those walking alone during night time and  rob them of cash and mobile.  However, none had registered a complaint.  A few days ago a similar incident had taken place in the city bus stand area.

 On June 16, the gang had assaulted a person at Kalianpur Santhekatte and had escaped with his mobile. As  soon as the victim lodged a complaint, police zeroed in on the accused and  arrested three of them  from  Bengaluru and other three persons from Mangaluru.

All the accused are presently in judicial custody.
