Sellers, most of whom are from Arkalgud taluk in Hassan district, have taken their positions in two neat rows on either side of the street.

While some of them have got the flowers from their own fields, others have purchased in bulk.

Yelle Gowda from Athni village, has a field. “I pack the flowers in such a manner that they do not lose their freshness,” he said.

Thimme Gowda from Konunur village, said he cultivates zinnias and chrysanthemums on his half-acre field.

“But these marigolds, I purchased,” he said. Dharmesh from Arsikatte village has brought three gunny bags full of flowers.

Most of them form groups and travel in a hired tempo or van. Thimme Gowda has brought flowers worth Rs. 24,000.

Transportation and other miscellaneous charges come up to Rs. 2,000; and he is hoping to get at least Rs. 30,000 in sales.

Many sellers, like Chandre Gowda, are regulars here; they come every festival season.
