Udupi: Fed up with administrative apathy, auto drivers repair road on their own

Udupi, Aug 7, 2015 : Fed up with the apathy of the administration to repair the stretch from Karavali Bypass to Malpe Road,  nearly 30 autorickshaw drivers, under the aegis of the Ashrayadatha Autorickshaw Drivers’ Union  voluntarily took up the task of filling the potholes on August 6, Thursday.

Earlier, on July 22, the Union had staged a protest and had even set a ten-day deadline to the administration to repair the road. But when there was no response, they themselves shouldered the responsibility of repairing the stretch of road temporarily.

One of the protesting autorickshaw driver said that the  bad condition of the road makes  maintenance of autorickshaws  a costly affair. Yet another protestor accused elected representatives of complete apathy to the problems of the lay man.
