Udupi Dist to get an ’Assistant Director of Industries’

Manipal, Mar 03, 2015:  Briefing the local media, Minister for Labour T Parameshwar Naik said post of Assistant Director for Industries would be created in Udupi District to develop better industrialisation process in the district.   He said the Labour Commission has forwarded the proposal to KPSC and post would be created shortly.

T Parameshwar ..Asserting that there is no lack of funds, he said the Labour Department has ample funds, however, the funds should be utilised judiciously. Of the total Rs 3,000 crore assured to the department from both Centre and State government, the blueprint for Rs 900 crore is planned emphasizing skill development.  More than 2.5 lakh labourers were registered from 2007-13, however, in the aftermath of 2013 till date, as many as five lakh labourers are registered, he said.

Indicating satisfaction over progress of  inclusion of beneficiaries under Rastriya Swastha Bhima Yojane (RSBY) and rehabilitation of child labourers in the district he said measures taken up are effective. However, exclusive awareness programmes should be held to make them aware of the manyschemes available. Deputy Commissioner is heading the team that looks into RSBY. There are 12 programmes exclusively for labourers. The system of availing benefits of these schemes is now decentralised.

The labour officer is authorised for spot inspection and immediate release of benefits of schemes to beneficiaries. He assured that problems pertaining to building and construction workers in the district would be sought out within a week.  There are four dispensaries in Udupi district for insurance police holders. He said there is no dearth of drugs. Measures are taken to ensure adequate amount of drugs. He said measures would be taken to register all labourers including migrant labourers.  Several matters were addressed and participation was encouraging.
