Udupi DDRC will be strengthened, DC

Udupi, May 26, 2016: Udupi DC Dr. R. Vishal, on May 25, Wednesday, said that the  DDRC, District Disability Rehabilitation Centre  will be strengthened. He was speaking after inaugurating the first floor building of the Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS) here. He also inaugurated the District Disability Rehabilitation Centre (DDRC) on the occasion.


dcDC Dr. Vishal said that the DDRC would come up on the ground floor of the IRCS building. The IRCS offices would shift to the first floor. The first floor of the IRCS building was constructed at a cost of Rs. 43 lakh in five months. The DDRC was formed here in November 2011. Instruments worth Rs. 11 lakh had been ordered for the DDRC and they were expected to be installed soon.

Already, the DDRC had services of a speech therapist and a counsellor. If necessary, more staff would be appointed. The intention was to provide efficient services to the differently abled persons. The DDRC had held 22 health awareness camps and 27 medical camps in the district last year. Appliances worth Rs. 3 lakh were purchased last year.

There were complaints of monthly pensions not being paid to those who were affected by the pesticide endosulfan. In some cases, pensions were pending from last July to November. The pending pensions would be cleared soon. Issues related to disability pensions were being tackled in the pension adalats, Dr. Vishal said.
