Udupi DC lodges complaint; states illegal sand ministers tried to kill her and AC Shilpa Nag

Udupi, April 3, 2017: : Priyanka Mary Francis, the Deputy Commissioner of Udupi has lodged a complaint with the  Udupi Town Police  stating that illegal sand miners at Kandlur near Kundapur  made an attempt on  her life and that of Assistant Commissioner Shilpa Nag during a raid to the place late night on April 2, Sunday. It was  well past midnight when the DC lodged a complaint. She later convened a press meet at 2 am to narrate the incident.

Priyanka Francis said she along with AC Shilpa Nag had raided an illegal sand extraction place at Halnad and took  as many as six persons, all from north India into custody. Later at around 11.30  on Sunday night they had  raided another illegal sand extraction place at Kandlur when  some people attacked  the DC’s gunman, village accountant Kantharaju and two  drivers. The complaint stated that attempt was made even on the lives of the DC and AC. Priyanka Francis in her complaint said both she and Shilpa Nag had to run  in order to save their lives. VA Kantharaju was later rescued by the police.

In the melee Bhasker who was  among the people engaged in sand mining has been injured  and hospitalised. He however alleged that the Deputy Commissioner, Assistant Commissioner and others who knocked at his doors late night had committed atrocities on him.

He also alleged that they tried to force him into  a car his fingers was caught in between the doors. He said he has lost two fingers and was dragged by the car upto a distance of 300 meters.

Apart from the six north Indians eight others too have been arrested and are likely  to be produced before the court.

Meanwhile, it has been gathered that the DC and AC had kept the raid a closely guarded secret and had not even informed the police prior to the raid.
