Udupi : Cops accused of torturing youngsters in lock-up

Udupi, Sep 07, 2015: Udupi police are facing charges of  assaulting two youngsters  who reportedly spoke rudely  and in a high-handed manner  with them over mobile phone.

One of the injured Eveas (21), a first B.Com student in a  Manipal college has been admitted to Ajjarkad Hospital.

What has been gathered is that a mobile phone which one of Eveas’ friend Sampath had purchased from a  person named Prasanna was a stolen phone which however Sampath  was unaware of.

Meanwhile, the police  who were trying to locate the stolen phone  had telephoned the number to find its location.  However, an unknowing Sampath  thought it was a prank call from friends and   spoke rudely. Even Eveas followed suit.

The police who tracked down the mobile phone, arrested Sampath who during interrogation also revealed the name of Eveas. It is said Sampath was also beaten up in custody. Even Eveas who was detained   was reportedly assaulted by six cops. The family members of Eveas say he was assaulted at the instructions of SI Ravi Kumar. The family also alleged that the police have threatened to file serious complaints against Eveas. Though Eveas was released the same evening, he has been admitted to Ajjarkad  Hospital.
