Mangaluru, Oct 27, 2016: The state Health Department has signed an agreement with the BRS Health Research Pvt Ltd to set up two hospitals with 200 bed and 400 bed capacity each in place of the existing District Government Women’s and Children’s Hospital in the city. Foundation for the same will be laid by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on October 30 at 2.30 pm.
Informing this to reporters here, local MLA Pramod Madhwaraj said that as the existing hospital has only 60 beds and was insufficient to the increasing number of patients, Dr B.R. Shetty has come forward to construct the hospital within one year and offer free service to the poor. The 200 bed hospital will offer free health care sevice to BPL card holders, Universal Card holders and those having medical insurance.
Charges would be levied to patients only in the 400 bed Super Speciality Hospital as per the rates fixed by the Supervisory Committee comprising the DC, District Surgeon, B R Shetty and other stake holders, he added.
The three sites measuring 3.88 acres, adjacent to the Hospital will be first leased for 30 years and then again for another 30 years. As the land has been provided by Haji Abdulla and the hospital constucted by BR Shetty, the Hospital will be named Koosamma Shambhu Shetty Haji Abdulla Memorial Women and Children’s Hospital, he said.
If the patients admitted to the charity hospital need higher treatment they would be offered the treatment at the Super Speciality Hospital, and if required free of cost too, Madhwaraj informed.
Nagesh Hegde, representative of B R Shetty, Dr Madhusudan Nayak, Surgeon, Dr. Rohini, District Health Officer were present.
