Udupi: BJP, CPI(M) stage separate black flag protests against CM

Udupi, Oct 30, 2016: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah was greeted with a black flag demonstration by BJP workers, just as he  arrived at Ajjarakadu on October 30, Sunday  to lay the foundation for a new hospital to come up in place of the Government Children’s and Women’s Hospital. The party is opposing the state government’s act of signing an agreement with NRI entrepreneur BR Shetty permitting him to  upgrade the hospital as well as to construct a super speciality hospital on PPP Model.

The protestors were heard shouting slogans against  the Chief Minister, Udupi District in-charge Minister Pramod Madhwaraj as well as the Congress Government.

The protestors were later detained by the police.


CPI(M) stages protest against privatisation of Govt Hospital
Udupi: The Udupi district committee of the CPI(M) staged a  black flag demonstration in front of the Clock Tower on October 30, Sunday to protest against the  privatisation of the Udupi Government Women and Children’s Hospital and also demanding early solution to the sand problem.

Addressing the protestors, CPI(M) District Secretary Balakrishna Shetty said it was not proper on the part of the  government to decide on  the  privatisation of a hospital without taking everyone into confidence and without inviting global tenders. He also suspected some ulterior motive behind the  project.

He further questioned whether a government which was ready to spend Rs 1,800 crores towards a steel bridge cannot spend Rs 10 crores  for upgradation of a hospital.
