Udupi, Oct 22, 2020: A team of Udupi police led by DCIB Inspector Manjappa D R has arrested four inter-state thieves who were wanted in several chain snatching and theft cases. The four were arrested from near the parking area of Krishna Mutt.
Those arrested are said to be belonging to the notorious Irani gang. They have been identified as Zakir Hussain (26), Kambar Rahim Mirza (32), Akshay Sanjay Gosavi (22) and Shahrukh Bandenawaz Sheikh (24( from Srirampura in Ahmednagar district of Maharashtra.
Their modus operandi was to strike a conversation with lone men and women on the road, mostly elderly citizens adn mislead them saying some disturbance was taking place and ask them to keep all the valuables which they are wearing in their bag and in the process rob the valuables. They have snatched valuables in this way in several places in Karnataka, Maharashtra and Delhi.
They were wanted in one case each in Mangalore, Udupi, Kundapur, Bantwal, Chikkamagaluru and Vijayapura. A gold chain which they had snatched in Mangaluru, a car a bike and cash of Rs 5,100 has been seized from them. Gold weighign 65 grams which they had sold to a shop in Srirampura has also been seized. Police have so far recovered stolen valuables worth Rs 7 lakhs from the accused.
