UPCL thermal plant blast on Sept 27, consequences

Udupi, Sep 28, 2018: A unit of the thermal power plant of Udupi Power Corporation Ltd. (UPCL) stopped functioning owing to a blast in its transformer at Yellur in Udupi district.

 

Udupi DC Priyanka Mary Francis, said on Sept 27,  Thursday that the blast occurred around 9.20 a.m. Sources said the exact cause of the blast was being examined by a technical team and that it was a minor incident. There are two units at UPCL of 600 MW capacity each.

Owing to the blast, Unit-2 of UPCL stopped functioning. There were no injuries. The restoration work was on and it was expected to be completed in a few days. .
