Mangluru, Sept 3, 2018: The BJP has won the Urban Local Body polls held in Udupi, Kundapur, Saligrama and Puttur. The counting was held on Monday. The Congress managed to win in Bantwal Town Municipal Council and Ullal Municipality. However, the party has not secured majority here. In Karkala the Congress and BJP won 11 seats each while one seat was bagged by an independent candidate
In Puttur, Congress won just 5 seats while BJP which came to power has won 25 seats. In Bantwal, BJP won 11 seats and the Congress 12 seats. SDPI won four seats here.
In Ullal, Congress bagged 12 seats, BJP 6 and SDPI six seats followed by JD(S) which won four seats.
In Udupi TMC BJP won 31 seats while Congress managed to win just four seats.
In Saligrama Town Panchayat elections, Punith Poojary, Congress candidate who contested from Todukallu ward won by just one vote against his BJP rival Karunakera.
In DK District in-charge Minister U T Khader’s home constituency Ullal, the SDPI and JD(S) have put up an impressive show. The SDPI had fielded a total of nine candidates including five men and four women candidates. Interestingly all the four women candidates have won.
In an untoward incident, miscreants stoned some shops at Kallaup after an independent candidate defeated Minister Khader’s confidante Usman Kallaup.
