Two runaway girls resuced by childline officials.

Mangaluru: August 6, 2015: Officials of Childline 1098 Mangaluru on Wednesday have rescued two girls from KSRTC main bus station and Mangaluru Central Railway respectively and handed them over to child welfare committee. Both these had left their respective homes and landed here. While one of the girl, aged 12, who is from Dharwad district landed at the KSRTC bus station, the other girl, aged 17, was spotted at the Central Railway station having arrived there in a train.

Sampath Katii, centre coordinator, Childline 1098 said the superintendent of the KSRTC bus station who spotted the girl, all alone, called Childline. Officials of Childline with assistance from police personnel took the girl in to their custody and produced her before the CWC, which in turn provided her with temporary accommodation. One of her relatives had left this girl at the house of an unknown person here for domestic work. She fled the house unable to bear their torture.

Suresh, owner of a stall at Mangaluru Central railway station spotted the teenager in a helpless state on the platform. Acting on information given by him, Childline officials rescued and produced her too before the CWC, which like in the above case made temporary arrangements for her stay. The elder sister of this teenager who used to physically and mentally torture her, forced her to board a train leaving Delhi and she landed up in this coastal city, Sampath said.
