Mangaluru, Feb 18, 2021: The Third Additional District and Sessions Court has awarded life sentence to two persons who have been proved guilty in the Rekhappa Lamani murder case that took place at Panambur in 2016.
Those who have been awarded life sentence are Nagaraj Govindappa Lamani (28) from Devaragudde, Ranebennur and Veeresh Shivappa Lamani (32) from Hanumapura in Ranebennur.
The victim Rekhappa also hailed from Ranebennur and was the husband of Nagaraj’s elder sister.
Nagaraj who was working in Manjeshwar had invited Rekhappa to Manjeshwar after finding a job for him. However when Nagaraj became close to Rekhappa’s wife Savitri, Rekhappa decided to return to his village. On coming to know about this Nagaraj invited Rekhappa to Mangaluru. There along with one Veeresh, Nagaraj ensured Rekhappa was heavily drunk. He was then taken to Panambur where both smothered him to death and then dumped a stone on his head.
The murder had come to light two days later. The court had heard a total of 22 witnesses in the case. Both the convicts have been asked to pay Rs 10,000 each as fine out of which Rs 10,000 will be given to the wife of the deceased.
