Two kids die as rain continues to batter coastal districts

Mangauru: July 11, 2015: A six year-old boy died when the toilet wall outside his house caved in on Thursday. The incident was reported near Pudu in Bantwal taluk. Sources said that Mohammed Arshad, son of Haneef, had stepped out to use the toilet in the courtyard. No sooner had he closed the door, the wall collapsed. By the time the child’s parents and relatives rushed in, he was dead, police said.

Meanwhile, a Nine-year-old girl Kumari Vismaya was washed away in the heavy rain that lashed Kundapur taluk on Friday. The child was walking to school with her mother when she was swept away in the Chakra river. Vismaya insisted on walking ahead of her mother, and within a few seconds, she was washed away.

Body Not Found: About 150 locals joined in the search operation, but they could not trace the girl’s body till late evening.

Veenashree, Vismaya’s older sister, is a student of class 10 and had left for school early on Friday.

The locals had been demanding a new bridge for a while as the existing one, made of wooden logs, was not safe. Despite repeated requests, the government had not paid heed to their  demands.  When contacted, Kundapur tahsildar Gayathri Nayak said the locals had been instructed not to use the makeshift bridge.
