Two-day ’open house’ at Mangalore University to boost profile

Mangaluru, June 4, 2015: As per information released, Mangalore University will hold  ’open house’  to exhibit strengths and facilities available in the post graduate departments of university on June 12 and 13. Mangalore University has 27 departments offering 35 courses.

Two-day ’open house’ at M’lore Uni to boost profileThe open house session, a popular concept, will give a clear idea about facilities available in the university, opportunities after completion of PG courses in a particular department.  The Convener Prof K R Chandrashekar, expalined.

The ’Open house’ is a brain child of Mangalore University Vice Chancellor Prof K Byrappa, and is expected to attract graduate students coming under the jurisdiction of Mangalore University, who are likely to take up their higher studies in the university campus.  Open House is aimed at laying bare the facilities available in the department, activities being carried out by the faculty and scholars, milestones and important contributions of department, available funding from various national/international funding agencies, industries sponsored programmes and avenues and opportunities after completing the course.


It will enable students an opportunity to visit departments of their choices, have first hand information about library, and information systems, hostel accommodation, computing facilities, advanced science research facilities like CARRT, Microtrone, PURSE, CAREER etc.  Besides, the university will ensure access to the art and culture museums, sports facilities encouraging the students and parents to visit.

Guides :  Dean of Arts Prof Chinnappa Gowda said at the end of programme, students should be able to decide on course of their choice to pursue their higher studies.  An interaction with students, video presentation of development of the university and so on will be arranged. 


Due to  lack of knowledge on avenues and facilities available for students, enrolment ratio to higher education has not picked up. The Open House, will contribute increase in gross enrolment ratio in higher education. Students will get better exposure when they continue their post graduation in university campus. Citing an example, he said guest lectures conducted by various peetas in Kannada department will help in expanding the horizon of knowledge.   The strengths of Mangalore University PG Centre at Chikkaluvara and University College will also be showcased for students.

Prof Chandrashekar said additional bus service will be arranged to pick students who wish to visit Mangalore University, at KSRTC Bus Stop, Jyothi, Kankanady and Thokkottu. Department profiles will be provided to each student with details on advanced laboratories, ICT classrooms, teacher student ratio, extra curricular activities, international students.  This opportunity is designed to enhance and spread the rising profile of the Mangalore University in a better manner for all concerned.
