Two arrested for robbing senior citizen of Rs 27 lakh in Mangaluru

Mangaluru, Dec 9, 2018: Mangaluru Central Division Anti Rowdy Squad personnel have arrested two youths who had waylaid and robbed an elderly citizen of Rs 27 lakh on October 20 near Bejai Srirama Bhajana Mandira Road in the city.

The arrested youths have been identified as Mohammed Shafi (26) of Ilanthila and Mohammed Riyaz (19) of Ilanthila Nejikar. The police have so far recovered Rs 16.57 lakh in cash and a two-wheeler used by them to commit the crime.

Entrepreneur Ganesh Kamath (64), a resident of Bejai, had arranged the amount to make advance payment for the construction of his house. The youths, who had seen Kamath count the amount at his shop on October 20, had hatched a conspiracy to rob him. They had waylaid Kamath and pushed him to the ground before fleeing with Rs 27 lakh in cash. A case was registered in Urwa Police Station. Based on the information, the police have arrested the duo.
