Twin coastal districts ban fishing from June 1 to July 31

Mangaluru, May 19, 2016:The Karnataka government has announced a complete ban on mechanised fishing for 61 days, from June 1 to July 31, both days inclusive, on the State’s coast.  A public release here said that the order was issued under the Karnataka Coastal Fishing (Regulation) Act 2014. The ban has been clamped to help fish breeding during monsoon.

During the period, all kinds of mechanised boats with engines (outboard as well as onboard) beyond 10 horse power capacity are banned from launching into the sea for fishing.

Conventional boats : Conventional boats as well as boats fitted with outboard engines up to 10 hp capacity can engage in fishing during the period, the release said.  

Those fishermen and fishing boats violating the ban would be dealt with as per the provisions of Karnataka Coastal Fishing Act 1986. They would also lose diesel subsidy for one year, the release said.  The administration has urged fishermen to abide by the order in the interest of the fisher community.

In Udupi : The DC Dr R. Vishal said  on may 18, Wednesday reiterated that there would be a ban on fishing in Udupi district for 61 days from June 1 to July 31. DK and Udupi have been strictly implementing this law.
