Tuluva girl Neha Shetty is Badminton Champion

Mumbai, Oct 3 : Tuluva girl Neha Shetty is a promising badminton star who already has several medals to her kitty. For the first ever time, Neha  has ensured stupendous success at the GCC  level for the Qatar Badminton Association  following her spectacular win in the Under-12 Singles and Under-14 doubles event at this year’s GCC Open Badminton tournament held at Kuwait recently. It is a matter of great pride for Kannadigas and Tuluvas that Neha has emerged the No 1 player in the under 12 category among players of the 12 GCC counties.

Twelve year old Neha, a Grade 7 student of the DPS-MES School at Doha Qatar is the daughter of Naresh Shetty and Vijaya N Shetty couple who hail from Volakadu in Udupi.

In the GCC Open Under 12 category held recently she defeated top seeded Reema Raj in three sets (12-21,21-16,21-6) to emerge the No. 1 player while in the Under 14 doubles category,  Neha partnering with Sadhwi Krishna achieved the  runner -up position having lost in straight sets (scores 16-21,9-21) in the final.

Neha had  even emerged the winner in the  2013 Kings Quarter Badminton Open and   was the Doubles Runner-up in GCC Open (Qatar) and Singles Runner Up in 2015 Qatar Open.

It was only in the year 2011 that Neha  attended her very first badminton class and she took the initiative of marking badminton as her main hobby after successfully participating in the competitions held in Qatar

Neha is coached by  Manoj Shahibjan at the Qatar Badminton Association (QBA). When asked, Manoj mentioned that this is a first time in the history that a player from QBA has achieved this recognition in a GCC tournament while playing outside Qatar.

 "This the  best phase of my life...," words not lightly spoken. For the time being, though, she can lean back, put up her feet and savour it all, exclaims Neha.

Neha Shetty is the granddaughter of ‘Sri Guru Chaya’ Srinivas and Sundari Shetty hailing from Volakad Udupi district.
