Tulu film ‘Paddayi’ on screens in DK, Udupi, July 13

Mangaluru, July 11, 2018: ‘Paddayi’, the national award-winning Tulu film, is all set to show in various theatres in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts on July 13.

Addressing media on July 10, Tuesday, film writer and director Abhayasimha said that the Tulu film is an adaptation of William Shakespeare’s play ‘Macbeth’. The screenplay of the 100-minute duration film has been recreated so as to touch upon the regional aspirations, he added.

Mohan Sheni and Bindu Rakshidi are in the lead roles, enacting Madhava and Sugandhi, parallel roles of Macbeth and Lady Macbeth. Both are from a theatrical background and are trained at Ninasam. Chandrahas Ullal, Gopinath Bhat, Ravi Bhat and others are in the cast. Most of the artistes are from the theatrical background, he said.

The film has been shot in Mangaluru and Malpe and it has English subtitles. The film has obtained ‘A’ certificate from the Censor Board.

The film has been selected for official screening at Bengaluru International film festival 2018, New York Indian Film festival 2018 and Austria Film Festival 2018, to name a few. The film has also been recently selected for screening at ‘Pêcheurs du Monde’ in France, where the films related to the fishermen community are screened exclusively.

Abhayasimha said that the background score is the highlight of the film. Manikanth Kadri has provided the score. The music has been set in such a way that it provides a thematic continuity in the prominent scenes of the film. There are plans to release the music soundtrack of the film separately as it has come out very well on its own, he added.

Sound designer Jamie D’Silva said that the film’s dialogues are captured in the sync sound mode and no dubbing was done in the studio. All sounds and sound effects are naturally captured and used in the film.

Film Producer Nithyananda Pai said the film has been produced in a budget of Rs 40 lakh.

Sachin, one of the distributors of the film, said that the film will be released at Big Cinemas, PVR and Cinepolis, Inox, Big Cinemas in Mangaluru, Kalpana theatre in Udupi, Radhika and Planet in Karkala, Amarashree in Moodbidri and Natraj in Surathkal. There are plans to screen the film in single theatres in Mangaluru as well, he said and added that he, as a distributor, is hopeful of the commercial success of the film.
