Tulu culture highlighted at ’Art expo’

Mangaluru, Mar 16, 2015: At least twenty art works created by the budding artists of Mahalasa school of art, at the workshop on ’Shackles in the rural life of Tulunadu’, held at Vishwa Tuluvere Parba last December were on display. 

The painting exhibition held in commemoration of late artist Jagadish Ammunje, at Jagath Art Gallery in Lower Bendoor in Mangaluru on March 15, capturing aspirations and the shackles in the lives of people of Tulunadu effectively.  The art in oils, water colour, acrylic, charcoal works depicting the aftermath of river diversion, thermal power plant projects, were exhibited. 

Speaking at the inauguration, Mandd Sobhan Gurkar Eric Ozario recalled his association with Jagadish Ammunje  who  moved ahead with exclusive art ’creation’ at Kalangann a few years ago.  "Jagadish  developed a unique form, inspiring  many artists of the present generation," he tweeted.

Principal N S Pattar, Mahalasa School of Art, said that Jagadish was counted among artists who aimed at a standard for excellence in the art form and establish a rapport with people at different levels.

Artist Dinesh Holla said that  Jagadish Ammunje was ’behind-the-scene’ person of great talent, very few knew about him before the Vishwa Tulu Sammelana held in Ujire.   Artist and Yenepoya Hospital Orthodontics and Dentofacial orthopeadics department Head Dr Akhthar Hussain felt artists needed more opportunity and support, he stressed on the need for an Art Gallery and the revival of Seemanthibai memorial government museum in Bejai in Mangaluru, to preserve precious art.

MRPL Corporate Communication DGM Lakshmi M Kumaran inaugurated the exhibition, Art patron Naina Fernandes, social activist Jyothika Jain, Jagadish Ammunje’s brother Dharmaraj Ammunje and organiser Taranath Kapikad, artists Chaithra, Prashubha, Shobha, Sumitra, Preethika, Chethan Kumar K, Chethan K, Vasanth, Teelaksha, M Nikitha Prabhu, Jyothsna P G, Thejasjhree K B, Namitha Rajan, Anil, Bhavan P G, Naveen Kumar, Shivasubrahmanya, Vinod, Divya, Janaki, Umesh K, Umesh V M , Ashwin and others were present among a large appreciating gathering.

Terracotta murals and wall coverings depicting the theme ’Tulunadu Folk’, were the cynosure of all eyes visiting the show.   Speaking to media, artists said that the art pieces with designs of Yakshagana, drew greater admiration from art lovers.
