As many as 3000 tanker drivers  have  refused to operate the tankers which are seen parked  in Suratkal.  On Saturday the situation grew tense when  new truck drivers were brought from Tamil Nadu so that the stationed gas tankers could proceed to their destination.

However, this was unacceptable to the protestors who intercepted the tankers resulting in the police arresting 47 of them including DYFI leader  Imtiyaz BK and others.
