Mangaluru, May 16,2017 : The Kadri Police have busted a hi-tech honey trap racket   with the arrest of three persons. The arrest followed a complaint from a doctor of a well-known hospital in Mangaluru who reportedly lost Rs 14 lakhs after falling prey to this racket. Police are presently on the lookout for four others including a woman who are part of this racket and are absconding.

Those arrested are Narayan Salian, a resident of Someshwar, Sadiq  and Mohammad Ranji from Ullal. Among those absconding is one Rakesh.

The victim who is learnt to be a senior doctor in a city hospital  knew Mohammad Ranji quite well. The latter who knew about the doctor’s weakness hatched a plan to extract money from him by  offering to provide a young woman. As promised Mohammad arrived with the lady near Mallikatte bus stand on May 2 and asked the doctor to come there. The three then headed towards a juice shop. As the doctor and the woman went inside, Mohammad who stayed back in the car informed his associate Sadiq. As the car later proceeded, it was stopped by Narayana Salian, Rakesh and two others who posed as cops at Mallikatte Circle. The doctor was then made to sit on the back seat and they drove the car towards Someshwara. There the doctor was taken to a room was forced to undress and pose for photos with the woman.

The gang later threatened to release the photos if its demand for cash was not fulfilled. It is learnt the doctor agreed to pay Rs 14 lakh through RTGS and did so. However when the accused began to pressurise for more money a few days later, the doctor informed the police. The Kadri police in a clever manoeuvre  made the accused come near Nanthur-Pumpwell and trapped them.

All the three have been produced before the court and remanded to judicial custody.
