Transparency ensured during GP polls: Sharma

Mangalore, June 4: Additional Deputy Commission Prabhakar Sharma said that the MLAs and the leaders of the Zilla Panchayat and the Taluk Panchayat were present throughout the Gram Panchyath (GP) polls to ensure transparency.

Mr. Sharma announced the reservations for the post of president and vice president for 2010 in various Gram Panchayats during a programme held following the successful completion of the GP polls at Town Hall on June 4, Friday. He further explained that the posts of president and vice president were reserved for scheduled caste, scheduled tribe, backward classes A and B, and general reservation. 

A lucky draw was held to appoint the president as well as the vice president. The authorities concerned made the divisions on the basis of classes and dropped chits bearing the names of GPs and requested the audience to pick the chits. Presidents and vice presidents were selected for 49 GPs accordingly. 

Assistant Commissioner Prabhulinga Kavalakatti and other authorities were involved in the process.
