Train Drivers Go on Hunger Strike

Sonia

Loco pilots, also known as train drivers, who belong to the All India Loco Running Staff Association, went on a hunger strike in Mangalore’s central railway station in order to bring the attention of the authorities to their various demands.

According to a press release, the loco pilots want their working hours to be reduced from 13 to 8 hours per day. Besides demanding a salary hike, they also requested that their working conditions be specially reviewed by a judicial committee appointed only for the purpose.

The association has called for loco pilots throughout the country to protest. In spite of this, the strike did not affect the railway service in Mangalore. P. Rajesh Babu, the association’s divisional joint secretary and V. P. Biju, secretary of the association’s city branch participated in the strike.
