Tragedy during Yellamavasya bath: Noted Tulu writer SR Heggade drowns

Mangaluru, Dec 23, 2014 : Noted writer and editor of Snehachintana publication of Buntara Sangha, Bengaluru,  Chelairuguttu Seetaram Heggade (65) met a watery grave in the sea while taking a holy dip on the occasion of Yellamavasya  near the Marigudi in Tadambail Suratkal on December 22, Monday.


S R Heggade writer and editor drowns   Said  to be belonging to the family of Tulunad folk hero Agoli Manjanna, Heggade who was popularly known as SR Heggade was also instrumental in forming the Agoli Manjanna Trust.


Eyewitnesses said Heggade  was washed away by a huge tidal wave. He is survived by his writer wife Indira Heggade  and a son and a daughter.


Heggade’s body was later  recovered at Mallamar Beach in Suratkal on Monday afternoon.


Heggade was also an ex-serviceman and had even won medal for distinguished services while in the Army. He was also the President of Buntara Sanhga, Bengaluru and Secretary of Bengaluru Tulu Koota.
