Traffic violations to be monitored by 9 teams: Udupi DC

Udupi, Mar 15, 2019: Udupi DC Hephsiba Rani Korlapati stated that 9 teams would be formed to look into the incidents of traffic violations from April 9 for a period of one month.


udupi-dc.She was speaking at Udupi District Road Safety Committee meeting held at her office March 14, Thursday.

“Awareness camps will also be  conducted to create awareness on the different traffic violations.”

Mandatory :  The wearing of seat belts and helmets will be made mandatory and travelling by public transport like bus, and bicycles will be encouraged, she said.

Korlapati observed that the CCTV cameras were not functioning properly at many places. The CCTV cameras should be made functional, she said and added that departments that installed CCTV cameras should be held accountable. DC Hepsiba urged police to take immediate steps to set right the problem of overcrowding in school buses.

The DC said an amount of Rs three lakh with road safety committee can be used for installing reflectors and barricades.  She invoked stringent measures to check road accidents on the national highway. The interceptors should be deployed to track the overspeeding vehicles.  Udupi Traffic Sub Inspector Nityananda Gowda said lack of space at Padubidri Junction was hindering vehicular movement.

He blamed the absence of streetlights at 27 places for the rise in the number of accidents. Committee Member Secretary R M Varnekar said that the accidents should be studied scientifically in order to find the real causes.
