Mangaluru, November 03, 2015: All Souls Day following All Saints Day (November 1), for Catholics are again two important days. The dear departed are fondly remembered , graves visited if possible and special prayers offered. Mangalore is hub of Catholics and this day is a solemn celebration in all Cemeteries in a deeply traditional way. Most all around the world too observe this day in one way or another.
In coastal regions, graves in cemeteries are cleaned, spruced up and decorated with flowers. Special prayers after a remembrance of departed souls and usually a blessing by the priest. This day confirms an expression of a lifelong bond and also as a mark of gratitude to near and dear ones for the many memories and material goods gifted to descendants.
The prayerful celebration is followed by a unique meal with favourite fish of the Konkani Catholics to honour those remembered and forgotten.
