Tourist boat jetty inaugurated at Malpe beach

Malpe, Oct 3, 2015 :  MLA Pramod Madhwaraj,  speaking at the inaugural function of a tourist jetty constructed at Malpe beach at a cost of Rs. 2.26 crore, said that efforts would be made to construct a jetty at St. Mary’s Island, which is about 6.5 km from Malpe beach.  The jetty was inaugurated by Oscar Fernandes, Rajya Sabha member; he also laid the foundation for setting up ancillary facilities at the tourist jetty on the occasion.

MLA Madhwaraj said that the tourist jetty will put an end to the tourists having to enter the Malpe fisheries harbour to board tourist boats. The new tourist jetty was directly approachable from the Malpe beach. It had better amenities , he said.  At the old jetty, the tourists had to struggle to get on to the boats.

The Udupi Urban Development Authority had assured to provide Rs. 25 lakh, which would be used for laying interlocking tiles at the new tourist jetty. The whole intention was to provide better facilities to tourists, he said. Mr. Fernandes said that the St. Mary’s Island had always been a popular tourist destination. It was vital to provide facilities which will help the people.
