Top achievers felicitated on last day of Sahitya Sammelan

Mangalore, Mar 18: “Be yourself before attempting to occupy a high position,” advised Shri Raghveshwara Bharathi Swamiji of Shri Ramachandra Mutt during his benedictory speech on the 3rd and final day of the DK District Kannada Sahithya Sammelana at Town Hall on March 17, Wednesday.

Speaking about the influence of English and the loss of culture, the Swamiji expressed concern about people’s preference for imported goods to local products. He pointed out the fact that seeds grown in India are not in demand; however, the same seeds exported and brought back with the seal are in high demand. The Swamiji urged people to stop adopting Western culture and instead give their culture to the Westerners. He lauded the ability of the people of DK to organize social programmes with unity.

A programme was organized to felicitate junior and senior achievers on the last day of the Sammelan. Swamiji felicitated Padekall Narasimha Bhat, the president of the Sammelana with a memento, shawl, citation, and peta. Prominent achievers such as P Ananthakrishna Bhat, Dr Mukund Prabhu, BNGK Rao, Kodakallu Gopalakrishna Bhat, MS Ibrahim, Ramakrishna Shastry, Janardhana Hande, Devdas Contractor, M Seetharam Kulal, BL Nagaraj, Jeppu Dayanan Shetty, Madhukumar Nisarga, GK Bhat Seranje, Ananthram Bangady, Premalatha Acharya, Suresh Attavar, Sudhamani Krishna Murthy, M Ramdas, and others were also felicitated. The achievers who responded to the felicitation appreciated the lovable nature of the people of Dakshina Kannada.

Mr. Bhuvanabhirama Udupa, the treasurer of the District Kannada Sahitya Parishad, presented 9 resolutions, one of which was to demand the formation of a Mangalore Railway Sector from Palghat division and its inclusion into the North East Division. Another was to urge the establishment of Sahitya Bhavans in every taluk. The third resolution was to urge the government to give up its anti-environmental and anti-people policies. The fourth resolution was to demand a uniform system of education by eliminating the differences between aided and unaided Kannada medium schools and to fill the vacancies in Kannada medium schools. Another resolution was to demand the declaration of Kannada as a compulsory subject in English medium schools. The 9th resolution was to urge the government to provide road connectivity between Chikmagalur and Dharmasthala via Shishila and Arasinamakki and also between Subrahmanya and Madikeri via Koojumale.

Pradeep Kumar Kalkura, the president of Kannada Sahitya Parishad, welcomed the gathering. He also thanked all those who had supported the Sammelana. MP Nalin Kumar Kateel, Mayor Rajani Dugganna, Deputy Mayor Rajendra Kumar, and Roopa Bangera participated in the programme.
