Three more arrests, total accused seven in the Ujire vigilante case

Beltangady, Jul 20, 2014:  It is reported that three more culprits were arrested by the Beltangady police July 19 in the Ujire moral policing case of July 16 instance.  They are identified as Praveenkumar (25), a resident of Kalmanja town, Narayana (36), a resident of Ujire and Kiran (27), a resident of Kalmanja. The arrested so far are 7 in total all of whom have been sent to Ballary Jail in custody.


belthady moral police It may be recalled that  the police had arrested Gopal (32), a resident of TB Cross in Laila here, Ajith Kumar (23), a resident of Mani in Bantwal, Suresh Salian (22) from Valpady in Moodbidri, and Lingappa Naik (37), a resident of Machar Ujire on July 17.

To recap, the incident was reported that a 19-year-old girl, who had come for her sister’s admission at a college, was waiting for the bus at Ujire along with a 23-year-old youth. Some local youth, assumed them to be having illicit connections and belonging to different communities. They were questioned and allegedly harassed,  police on the spot brought the situation under control. Based on a complaint lodged by the youth, the police booked the accused  in several  clauses and the matter progresses.
