Three SVD deacons receive Holy Orders

Udupi, May 5, 2012 : Three deacons of the Society of the Divine Word (SVD) received their Holy Orders from Dr. Leo Cornelio, the Archbishop of Bhopal, at a solemn ceremony held in the newly renovated Church of Our Lady of Fatima in Pernal on May 4, Friday.

 

 

 

 

 

Just before the ordination ceremony, Dr. Leo Cornelio and Fr. Gregory Serrao, the parish priest, blessed and inaugurated the newly renovated Church of Our Lady of Fathima. Followed by which the  three newly ordained SVD priests Fr. Evan Gomes, Fr. Maxim Pinto of Nirude, and Fr. Rajesh D’Souza with their parents and the Archbishop arrived in a grand procession.

After their ordination, the new priests blessed the congregation.

The chief guests were Fr. Leo Cornelio, Fr. Lazar Stanislaus, the provincial for Mumbai Province, Fr. Nicholas Martis, the provincial for Central Indian Province, Dr. Lawrence D’Souza, the director of St. John’s Medical College in Bangalore, Fr. Gregory Serrao, the parish priest of Pernal.

Congratulating the newly ordained priests, Fr. Lazar Stanislaus said that Fr. Evan will be serving the Mumbai Province, Fr. Rajesh D’Souza will be serving the Central Indian Province, and Fr. Maxim Pinto will be serving as a missionary in Angola in Africa.

Fr. Gregory Serrao thanked and honored the Archbishop with a shawl and a memento and expressing his happiness with the ordination ceremony, Fr. Gregory said that this is the first ceremony of its kind in Pernal.

Newly ordained peiests were also falicitated and a delicious community lunch marked the end of the programme.
