Thokottu -Melkar Fourlane Highway Soon, says Nitin Gadkari

Mangaluru, Mar 28,  2016: Union minister for road transport and highways and shipping Nitin Gadkari  has announced that Tokottu-Padil-Melakar road will be reconstructed and developed to four lane national highway soon.

The minister laid foundation stone for widening Hassan-Marnahalli stretch of NH 75 and Addahole-BC Road section and stregthening and construction of rigid pavement on Shiradi Ghat (km 216 to 237) of Bengaluru – Managaluru national highway on Monday March 28  in a ceremony held at Jawaharlal Nehru Centenary hall in New Mangalore.

Gadkari also inaugurated the Baikampady overbridge and overbridge near BC Road  Circle on NH 75 and widening and construction of rigid pavement on Shiradi Ghat (km 237 to 250.620)on the same highway.

Following demand from Karnataka PWD minister Dr.H.C.Mahadevappa, MP Naleen Kumar Kateel and others Union minister Gadkari has announced in principle that Melakar-Tokottu road will be upgraded as National Highway and developed at as four lane hoighway.

He also announced that Bantwal – Kaikamba-Kateel-Mulki road and Karkala – Moodabidri as National highway.

Connectivity is very vital for economical growth of the nation and Karnataka is a fast developing state. The union government will support all its development projects, he added.


Karnataka PWD minister Dr.H.C.Mahadevappa, Union Minister DV Sadananda Gowda and MP Naleen Kumar Kateel thanked union Gadkari for sanctioning new projects and all the support to the state.

Dr.Mahadevappa also thanked all the MPs from the state for the co-operation extended by them.

Two sectors are very important for development - agriculture and industry. In industry, water, power and transport are very imporant, and the industrial sector is essential in order to create employment. Only by generating employment can poverty can be eradicated, Gadkari said, Former minister Nagaraj Shetty, MLA Moideen Bava, MLA of Hassan Narayana Swamy, deputy Mayor Sumithra, ex MLA Padmanabha Kottari, Chief Engineer Laxman Rao Peshwe and other were present in the function.
