Mangaluru, Nov 5, 2014: "Let us walk shoulder to shoulder in our quest to create a Clean India. A clean India is the best tribute we can pay to Bapu when we celebrate his 150th birth anniversary in 2019." Prime Minister Narendra Modi had said on October 2  when he launched Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, a massive mass movement that seeks to create a Clean India. Inspired by the Prime Minister’s speech, all Indians supported this movement heartily.

(Sweeping nothing! MP Nalin Kumar Kateel posing for media camera during the launch of ’swachh bharat’ campaign in Mangaluru)

Our city Mangaluru too accepted the call of the Prime Minister and organised a mass cleanliness drive on October 2. Everyone from VIPs to the common man took part in this movement of cleaning the city.  Even DK MP Nalin Kumar Kateel and several BJP leaders were  part of  the campaign.

A welcome move, but...  was their participation merely for  camera posing or publicity? Such a doubt is now in the minds of the public who  have seen the messy and untidy area right in front of the BJP office  near PVS Circle in Mangalore. People are virtually struggling to pass through the place. Why have the so called leaders turned a blind eye to the dirt and wastes rotting right in front of their own party office? Are they waiting for someone else to take up Mission Cleanliness here?
