Thieves decamp with jewels worth Rs 50 lakh from house at Bajal

Mangaluru, May 22, 2015: In a major burglary, thieves have decamped with nearly 70 sovereigns of gold worth  Rs 15 lakhs from a house at Kudthadka in Bajal on May 21. The theft came to light only after the occupants of the house belonging to Harishchandra Bekal  returned home on  May 21, Thursday evening.

If Harishchandra stays abroad, his  wife Jyothi and son live  at Bajal. However, the two had left for Jyoti’s native place Bekal on Saturday.

The thieves had broken open a side door of the house to make their way into the house and had ransacked the entire house  till they found  the jewels hidden by Jyoti inside a plastic tub under the cot.

Senior police officials including ACP Kalyan Shetty and Circle Inspector Pramod have visited the spot.

Mangaluru Rural police are investigating the case.
