Mangaluru, April 04, 2020: Congress leader and former MLA J R Lobo has stressed the need to keep politics away with regard to the issue of tackling Covid-19 which is a national crisis.
Speaking to reporters here on April 4, Saturday, Lobo while pointing out that the people of the district were fully co-operating with the administration as far as tackling Coronavirus is concerned, at the same time said the administration announcing some major decisions overnight has landed people in confusion. He also alleged that there was no consensus among those at the helm of affairs in the ruling party, with regard to the decisions taken.
Any decision should be announced 24 hours in advance, he suggested. Lobo also said the decision to shift the fruits and vegetable wholesale sale from Central Market to Baikampady APMC yard was not timely given the present situation.
Lobo said the Congress Committee has already formed a Task Force to assist people and that a control room has been set up at the party office. The Task Force aims at ensuring various amenities of the government to the people. Lobo himself is the Chairman of the Task Force which has Subodh Alva as its Secretary.
MLC and District Congress President Harish Kumar said in Karnataka only a Rs 200 crore package has been announced to tackle Coronavirus, while the neighbouring Kerala has announced a Rs 20,000 crore package.
MLC Ivan D’Souza said the government amenities are not reaching the poor during lockdown.
Party leaders Subodh Alva, Santosh Shetty, Shalet Pinto, Mamatha Gatti were also present.
