The road works on Shiradi Ghat will be prolonged

Mangaluru, Feb 20, 2015 : Travelling public are likely  to have to wait longer, even beyond the monsoon, to travel  in normal comfort through the Shiradi Ghat section, between Bengaluru and coastal Karnataka .


Shiradi Ghat The government said only 13 km of the 26 km-ghat stretch, between Heggadde and Kempu Hole guesthouse, could be concreted before May 2015.


Minister for Public Works H.C. Mahadevappa told presspersons on Thursday that the entire reconstruction work would probably be completed before year-end. Executive engineers from Mangaluru and Hassan are constantly monitoring the work and so too senior officials from Bengaluru. It was planned to concrete 26 km of the stretch and lay bitumen on the 21-km stretch between Gulagale and Heggadde at a cost of about Rs. 154 crore. The work was divided into two phases.

However, the contract for only the first package was awarded in May 2014. The contract for the second package is yet to be awarded. Delays are not denials........
