Mangaluru, Feb 27, 2020: It has been less than a month since Mangalore Today reported the stoppage of the new Clock fitted in the One Crore Clock Tower build with fund from ‘Smart City project. A few days later, the clock was repaired.  It is a pity the Clock has stopped functioning again since Wednesday, February 27, 2020.

The all new Clock Tower built near Town Hall spending over one Crore became talk of the town in November, 2019. Mangaluru city got back its clock tower after twenty five years since the iconic Clock Tower was demolished. Four huge clocks with ultra-modern digital movements with illuminated dial and classical numbering and hands installed in the newly built clock tower at the same site where the old Clock Tower existed.

The clocks devised and fabricated by the family of the master horologist Ms. Nayaks and co. who were producing clocks since 1939. (Famous Nayak’s Clocks)

Mangaluru City Corporation has given a big push to the revival of the clock tower at a cost of over One Crore being part of the ‘smart city’ project. The citizens of Mangaluru city wonder how MCC could spent such a huge amont for a clock when many important development works like roads, drainage systems, foot paths are pending.

And now, the all new Clock of the New Clock Tower is not working again even after restoration.  Who is to be blamed- The MCC or Nayak’s clocks?
