Teenager hangs herself at home

Beltangady, Sep 14, 2011 : Rachana Jain (18), a I B.Com. student of SDM College, Ujire, hanged herself at her house on September 12 Monday. She left behind a suicide note stating that she had taken the extreme step because she was unable to live without her father, who died 10 years ago.

 

Rachana, who is the daughter of Sarojini and the late Jagannath Rao, attended college for one hour on Monday. That day, she invited her friends for dinner, after which she sent a text message to all her close friends: “I miss you all, keep smiling.”

Rachana’s widowed mother and her brother who had started working so that his sister could continue her studies are shocked. However, her diary, which she has been regularly maintaining for the past few years, shows how deeply she was attached to her father and how much she missed him. According to her diary, her feelings of loss and insecurity increased when she went to college.

The college declared Tuesday as a holiday in honor of the deceased.
