Team of Karnataka bishops to visit Pope in Rome

Mangalore, Aug 30: A team of nine bishops from Karnataka, including Dr. Aloysius Paul D’Souza, the bishop of Mangalore Diocese, under the leadership of Rev. Dr. Bernard Moras, the archbishop of Bangalore, who is also the president of Karnataka Region Catholic Bishops’ Council (KRCBC) will go on an official Ad Limina visit to Rome to meet Pope Benedict XVI on September 1 – 10.

Ad Limina means an obligatory visit to Rome by the ordained members of the Catholic Church to meet the Pope and give an account of the happenings in their dioceses. The visit is not just a pilgrimage to the tombs of the apostles, but also to show reverence to the successor of St. Peter, to acknowledge his universal authority, and to get his advice. 


The team of bishops comprises Rev. T. Anthony Swamy, the bishop of Chikmagalur; Rev. Thomas Vazhapilly, the bishop of Mysore; Rev. Henry D’Souza, the bishop of Bellary; Rev. Derek Fernandes, the bishop of Karwar; Rev Aloysius Paul D’Souza, the bishop of Mangalore; Rev. Peter Machado, the bishop of Belgaum; Rev. Gerald Isaac Lobo, the bishop of Shimoga; and Rev. Robert Michael Miranda, the bishop of Gulbarga.
