Manipal, Apr 12, 2018: Team Manipal Racing, the off-road racing team of Manipal Institute of Technology and Manipal Academy of Higher Education, performed well in the recent national off-road event Mahindra Baja SAE India competition for all-terrain vehicles held at IIT Ropar.
The All-Terrain Vehicle of the MIT team was placed first in Overall Dynamics, third in Suspension and Traction, third in manoeuvrability and fourth in acceleration, missing a podium finish by just .02 seconds.
The MIT team was also placed third in the sales event. This was the team’s second event in 2018. The previous one was held at Coimbatore where they stood third in India. Students from different branches of engineering laboured assiduously on this car from the designing to the fabrication stage, which enabled the vehicle to easily go through harsh terrain, pull a weight of one tonne and accelerate quickly.
The team also celebrated their tenth anniversary.
“The design of the ATV was immensely praised by various professionals from automobile companies. They are now focusing on making their next iteration, V9, which will have several ‘first time in India’ features,” team captain Dickon Fernandes said.
“Our car was a major attraction owing to the kind of innovations it had,” team vice-captain Arnav Singh said.
The team members also gave credit to faculty advisor Prof Anand Pai whose guidance they said was invaluable.
