Tannirbavi, Someshwar beaches to get new look soon

Mangalore, July 13: A meeting of the offcials concerned chaired by Deputy Speaker N Yogish Bhat and participated among others by Deputy Commissioner Dr N S Chennappa Gowda, who is also the Tourism Development Committee chairperson, at DC’s office here on Tuesday, discussed in detail the pros and cons of the projects.


Suggesting the MCC to set aside a sum of Rs 2 crore, Yogish Bhat said that the fund should be utilised for better road connectivity and solid waste management.


In the meeting, both M/s Yojaka India Private Limited represented by Karthik and M/s Jyothi Advertisers represented by Isaac Vas and Yathish Baikampady made a detailed presentations about their projects.

Tourist and Heritage spotsWhile Tannirbavi beach would be developed into a tourist destination, plans are on the anvil to develop Someshwar beach into a heritage tourism destination.


Speaking to Deccan Herald, Deputy Commissioner Dr N S Chennappa Gowda said that the MoU between the district administration and project developers is likely to be signed within two to three days and the work on the same is expected to start soon. However, life guard and beach cleanliness works would begin soon, he added.


The Tannirbavi beach development would cover an area of 4 kms while Someshwar beach development would cover a distance of 2 kms.


MCC Commissioner Dr K N VIjayprakash, Engineer Maninarayan, CRZ Regional Director Ammannavar, Mahesh Kumar, Tourism Department Assistant Director Prakash, NMPT Executive Engineer Harinath and Fisheries Department Deputy Director Suresh Kumar among others were present.


Plastic ban on beaches from July 15


Deputy Commissioner has a passed an order to ban the use of plastic in Thannirbhavi and Panambur beach from July 15.

Accordinglly, the use of plastic covers, plastic glasses and plates by the tourists have also been banned. The traders have been asked not to keep a stock of plastic covers. As plastics mar the beauty of the beach, it has been decided to ban its use. The police have been asked to keep a watch on the use of plastics and give a report to the Deputy Commissioner’s office every month.
