Syrian, Sudanese students sent to jail, Police book case against injured also

Mangalore, 20 April 2015: JMFC court on Monday April 20 has sent five foreign students and one Keralite student to fourteen days of judicial custody for stabbing five local youths and police registered another FIR against the locals.

All the six accused, three Syrian and two Sudanian, were produced before the Court and were remanded to judicial custody. 

The accused have been identified as Qamaruddin, Hayal and Bilal from Syria, Jilani and Al Ameen from Sudan and Sadique from Kerala. The Syrians are pursuing BDS, the Sudanese BPharma.

Meanwhile, after investigation police filled counter case against local youth Dhananjay, Charan, Avinash, Sandesh and Manoj, who are hospitalised, for assault on students and trespassing of the apartment where students resided.

The Mangalore City Police has taken step to communicate this incident to High Commission of Sudan and Syria, it is learnt.

It can be recalled the incident occurred well past midnight in the basement of Veera Palace, a paying guest student hostel situated in Kodialguthu East locality of the city, on 18 April 2015.
According to highly placed police sources, there was first an altercation between two groups over a minor incident of negligent driving. This happened close to a bar in Karangalpady area. One group comprised of foreign nationals who are students in a local college. The other group was made up of local youth. After hurling abuses at each other, the local youth who were few in number assaulted the foreign nationals and the foreigners fled to their accommodation at Veera Palace.

Subsequently, all of a sudden the local youth regrouped into a bigger force and trespassed into the apartment complex for a second round of assault. In the ensuing fight, the foreign nationals retaliated with knives and four of the local youth suffered stab injuries.
