Swachh Railway, Swachh Bharat week launched from Sept 24

Mangaluru, Sep 24, 2016: On direction of the Railway Board, the Konkan Railway Corporation Ltd has initiated ’Swachh Rail, Swachh Bharat -Swachhata Saptah’  Briefing media on Sept 23, Friday, Konkan Railway Corporation Ltd Public Relations Officer (Mangaluru) Sudha Krishnamurthy said that ’Swachh Samarpan’ (dedication for ensuring cleanliness) will be held from  September 24. On this day, Prabhat Pheris will be taken out in the morning with the slogan ’Swachh Rail Swachh Bharat’ with a view to create awareness among all railway employees and their families to ensure cleanliness in the vicinity of their habitat. A skit will be staged at railway stations to create awareness among the passengers, he added.


Swachh Railway. On September 26, ’Swachh Aahar’ will be held wherein intensive inspection of all the food stalls at stations, pantry cars will be carried out by the team of officers and staff with an aim to provide swachh aahar to all rail passengers. In fact, the food is not supplied in plastic covers in trains instead on silver foil on the Konkan Railway route, she said.

The PRO said that during the drive, special emphasis was given to improve cleanliness of station and trains. In addition, a special focus was being given on quality of drinking water, cleaning of drains and adequacy of dustbins etc.

Stating that all the 36 pair trains running on Konkan Railway route from Thokoor to Kolad have been cleaned, she said that officials checked thoroughly for the cleanliness of the toilets, linen, pantry cars etc. Also feedback and suggestions were collected from the passengers to improve the services on the train during the drive.

As a part of ’Swachh Neer’ (clean water), the officials carried out inspection of water installations sources of water supply, water taps for drinking water at all the 65 stations coming under Konkan Railway route. The samples of drinking water were also collected for quality checking, she explained. She said that as part of ’Swachh Sahyog’ (cleanliness participation) on Thursday, the cleanliness awareness campaign of displaying anti-littering notices at passenger interface areas were organised in all the stations.

On Friday, as part of ’Swachh Samvad’ (cleanliness dialogue), passenger interaction on cleanliness and feedback was collected. Painting and poster competitions on the theme of cleanliness were organised among the children of railway employees. She appealed to all for cooperation in an endeavour to make Konkan Railway as clean and green railway.
