Swachh Mangaluru drive: 9 areas cleaned

Mangaluru, Oct 20, 2016:  In the second week of nine cleanliness drives of the 400 abhiyans, being organized by Ramakrishna Mission, Mangaluru, took off on Oct 17, Sunday at nine venues in the city. About 700 volunteers took part in the drives held at Hanpankatta, Bendoorwell, Kankanadi,  Kodialbail, Bejai, Kottara Chowki, Nanthur, Garodi, Padil.

Hampankatta: Auto drivers of Sri Krishna Bhavan Auto Shelter dedicated their time and efforts in cleaning the Hampankatta area under the able guidance of Dilraj Alva, convener of the abhiyan. Earthmovers and tippers were used to clear the garbage. Interlock tiles were re-laid in the footpath to help the pedestrians. Swami Chidambarananda flagged off the drive.


Bendoorwell: Bhandary Fou ndation helped the Swachh Mangalore Abhiyan immensely. Students of Sahyadri Engineering College cleaned the road leading from Bendoorwell Circle to St Agnes College. Swami Dharmavratanandaji and Sri Umashankar, dean of Sahyadri Engineering College, flagged off the drive.

Kankanadi: The students of Sahyadri Engineering College cleaned the Kankanady area under the guidance of Sheshappa Amin. Swami Dharmavratanandaji and Umashankar, dean of Sahyadri Engineering College flagged off the campaign.   

Kodialbail: Members of Prerana Team under the leadership of Sadananda Upadhyaya took up the cleanliness drive near PVS Circle. Swami Purnakamanandaji and Swami Jitakamanandaji of Ramakrishna Math, Mangaluru jointly flagged off the drive. Teams including Ragataranga, Lions Club Metro Gold and members of Leo Club joined them in the drive.

Bejai: Members of Mangalore Senior Citizen club, Mangalore Seniors, carried out the drive in and around KSRTC bus stand. Swami Purnakamanandaji of Ramakrishna Math and Nagesh, secretary, Senior Citizens’ Forum, jointly flagged off the drive.

Kottara Chowki: The members of group ’Kumara Gym Friends’ under the leadership of Kiran Kumar cleaned the overbridge and surroundings of Kottara Chowki. MLC Ganesh Karnik and Shivakumar of Ramakrishna Math flagged off the drive. Earth movers and tippers were used to clear construction debris from the area.

Nanthur: The members of ’Havyaka Mahasabha’ cleaned the Nanthur-Padua region after Swami Jitakamanandaji inaugurated the drive. Volunteers Rajendraprasad, G K Seraje, Venugopal, Ramachandra Bhat and others participated in the drive.

Garodi: ’Swachh Garodi for Swachh Mangaluru’, a group formed to create awareness among the public, took up the cleanliness drives in Garodi area. Mangaluru City South MLA J R Lobo and Asha D’Silva, corporator, flagged off the drive, in the presence of Swami Ekagamyanandaji of Ramakrishan Math.

Padil: Swami Ekagamyanandaji and Vasudev Kottari jointly flagged off cleanliness drive in front of Mahadevi Bhajana Mandir. About 75 volunteers under the leadership of Kodange Balakrishan Nayak worked for about three hours.
