Mangalouru, Sep 26,2016: In order to take the success of  the positive response to its Swachh Mangaluru Phase 1 and 2 campaign since February 2015, Ramakrishna Mission, Mangaluru, is now ready to take up Phase 3 of the drive wherein at least 10 teams would be engaged in cleaning operations at as many places in the city from October 2. As a prelude to Phase 3 launch, the Mission held an orientation programme for volunteers on the Ramakrishna Mutt premises here on Sept 25, Sunday.  The mutt would felicitate 75 pourakarmikas of MCC, Mangaluru City Corporation.

Swami Chidambarananda, convener of the Swachh Mangaluru programme, informed that as many as 40 teams, with members ranging from 50-100 have been formed for the abhiyan.

Mayor Harinath, MLA J.R. Lobo, Nitte University Vice-Chancellor N. Vinay Hegde, MLC Ganesh Karnik, mutt president Swami Jitakamanandaji and others shared their ideas with the volunteers about Phase 3.

The mutt set off the abhiyan in 2015, following a request from the Union government to its headquarters at Belur Mutt, Kolkata. The response from civil society was amazing inspiring the mutt to continue the drive for 10 months from October last year.

During Phase 3 of the abhiyan, teams would be given maximum freedom to function as per the local situation. Each team would offer service on just one Sunday in a month. The first set of 10 teams would work on first Sunday of each month; the second set of 10 teams on the second Sunday; the third set on third Sunday and the fourth set on the fourth Sunday.

Accordingly 40 cleanliness drives would be conducted in a month from October 2, 2016 to July 2017. Swami Chidambarananda said that the mutt has already identified 40 interested teams, which would be provided with all the cleaning material, including brooms, gloves, along with motivational T shirts, banners and awareness literature. The mutt would also give each team Rs. 5,000 a month to execute minor repair works.

The abhiyan’s Phase 3,  would be launched in the presence of Swami Bodhasaranandaji, Assistant General Secretary of the Mission,  MRPL Managing Director H. Kumar, Vinay Hegde,  MLA Lobo, MLC Karnik, B.M. Hegde and others participated.
